Pollution Pays Off For Toxic Mike
-
Corporate polluters pay big money to make sure Toxic Mike doesn’t make them clean up their act. When he ran for his current post a decade ago, 13 percent of his campaign cash came from the major industrial air polluters in Texas. (”Polluters puff money to political campaigns,” Houston Chronicle, 6-10-98)
-
In exchange, Toxic Mike carried bills to simplify the permitting process for polluters (HB1228, 1997), let them off the hook for polluting our air and water (HB1239, 1997), and easing restrictions against dumping radioactive waste (HB2776, 1997)
-
Even worse, Toxic Mike enthusiastically pushed for then-Gov. George W. Bush’s notorious plan to exempt the state’s worst polluters from state emissions permits or tighter controls on ozone levels.
